FutureLearn launches first full postgraduate degree

FutureLearn will become the first massive open online course provider to offer a suite of postgraduate degrees entirely on its platform through a new partnership with Australia’s Deakin University.

Six postgraduate degrees will be on offer from early 2017, including four master’s degrees in cyber security, development and humanitarian action, information technology and financial planning; a graduate certificate in diabetes education; and a graduate diploma in property. This is the first time anything of such scale has been made available through a MOOC platform. There is a huge potential of delivering a degree in this way.

In this new model, universities will be able to offer people worldwide the opportunity to sample courses for free, earn credit on a pay-as-you-go basis and then seamlessly transition to a privately hosted degree programme.  The same content can also be repurposed as educational products to employers and employees, who will increasingly mix and match courses from world leading institutions to achieve personalised learning outcomes.
