The PhD Programme in Historical Sciences is a three-year doctoral programme open to applicants from all over the world who hold a degree in History or a related discipline. Admission is based on a competitive selection process consisting of the evaluation of qualifications and an oral examination.
The call for applications is published every two years. The oral examination is held at the School of Advanced Historical Studies of the University of the Republic of San Marino. Applicants are normally required to attend the examination in person; however, candidates residing abroad or those with duly justified exceptional circumstances may take the interview remotely. The selection committee is composed of the members of the Scientific Council of the School.
The programme offers 16 places, 10 of which are supported by a scholarship of €1.250 per month for the entire three-year duration of the programme.
The annual enrolment fee is €620,00, payable in two equal instalments of €310,00 each, due on 30 June and 30 November
During the first and second years of the programme, students are required to attend the teaching activities held in San Marino during the months of June and October. Classes are taught primarily in Italian; however, some courses may be offered in English or French.
