The YY grant provides an important opportunity to advance cancer research through international collaboration. Their purpose is to enable cancer investigators from any country to carry out bilateral research projects abroad which exploit complementary materials or skills, including advanced training in experimental methods or special techniques.
Since its inception in 1975, the YY grant have contributed to the development of the professional capacity of over 330 Fellows from over 40 countries.
Target candidates Investigators, clinicians, epidemiologists, public health professionals
Duration 3 months
Extension Up to 3 months with funding secured by the fellow from other sources and at no cost to the UICC
Available 14-16 per year
Average value US$ 10,000 each
Application closing dates 15 January and 15 July
Notification of results 15 April and 15 October
Objectives
- To initiate, set up or pursue bilateral cancer research projects with collaborating investigators abroad
- To exchange and exploit complementary skills and material
- To receive training in advanced experimental research methods and techniques
Eligibility
- Possess PhD (or equivalent degree*) at least 2 years prior to the application closing date of the YY Selection applied for
- Actively engaged in cancer research
- Have recent publications in the international peer-reviewed literature
Research plan
- Basic, translational or applied cancer research
- Prevention-oriented projects are especially encouraged
