S4F Erlangen – „Scientists for Future“ an der FAU

Did you hear about the Fridays for Future-movement organized by pupils all over Europe? Do you as a young scientist also want to get involved?

Then take the opportunity and join the mail distributor of the Erlangen regional group of the Scientists for Future-movement:

s4f-erlangen@fau.de

Prof. Hundhausen from the Faculty of Engineering, who initiated the group, is planning a first symposium in autumn in the Erlanger Schloss – also with your contributions!

You are also welcome to „only“ keep up to date with the mail distributor.

The Doctoral Candidates‘ Representatives expressly support the concerns of the Scientists for Future-movement and also the constitution of the Erlangen regional group. Now, it’s your turn!

——————————————————————————————————————-

Nun seid Ihr gefragt!

Call Emerging Talents Initiative: Apply until 11th September

A new call for applications for the young researchers‘ programme Emerging Talents Initiative (ETI) has just started – the deadline is 11th September 2019. The programme offers excellent young FAU researchers support to apply to an external funding provider within the funding period (12 months), for example the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) or the European Research Council (ERC). The maximum amount of funding is 15,000 euros. Within this budget, postdoctoral researchers may apply for any measures required to prepare their application for third-party funding, such as staff costs, consumables or travel expenses. Additionally, the programme includes courses of the Graduate Centre (e.g. on applying for third-party funding), a network of young researchers and advice from an experienced mentor.

The programme targets postdoctoral researchers at the beginning of their career whose experience and research profile show potential for a career in research. “Emerging talents” can apply up to six years after completing their doctoral degree. Applicants should neither have completed their habilitation nor their intermediary evaluation for junior professorship. During the ETI funding period they must be employed at FAU. We particularly welcome applications from female researchers and “first-time applicants”. Young researchers from the Faculty of Medicine are not eligible to apply as the Faculty offers its own corresponding programmes (e.g. ELAN/IZKF-first-time applicant programme).

All information and application documents can be found on the ETI homepage. Please contact F 3 with any questions (contact: Dr. Anne Buhmann, 09131-85-26344).

Critical Mass at FAU on 7th of July – Knowledge in Motion – Cycling Tour

On 7th of July we invite you to cycle between various sites of our FAU to demonstrate the worrying situation of buildings at all our faculties. It’s time for another Brown Bag Break at FAU! A great opportunity for networking beyond your current research project, to get in touch with young researchers from other disciplines and to share ideas.

This time it is once more up to the Faculty of Sciences to host the event. The key part will be a presentation by Dr. Luca Caracciolo (Chair for Geology) about his career in Science and Industry: From Academia to Industry and back”.

When: Wednesday, 19 June 2019, 5 p.m. (17 Uhr)

Where: H2, Egerlandstraße 3, 91058 Erlangen

Questions Concerning the Elections? Get-Together on 30th of April!

In Mai and June are the elections at our FAU. Students, employees, professors and doctoral candidates elect their representatives. Since we are your current elected doctoral candidates’ representatives, we wish to answer all your questions about how our universities‘ democracy works and how we all can participate. An overview about us is given here. For detailed information about our tasks, projects, committees, commissions, etc. contact us via mail or ask us directly at our Get-Together in the pub Pleitegeier (Hauptstraße 100, 91054 Erlangen), starting at 7 p.m. We are looking forward to discuss with you about your life at FAU in order to contribute to a supporting and pleasant environment for your reasearch.

P.S. Sorry for the mistake in our mail, the get-together is on Tuesday, 30th of April, not Wednesday!
