Die Erstellung der Tango-Icons habe ich genutzt mich von Adobe Illustrator weg zu bewegen und mich in Inkscape einzuarbeiten.

Da Inkscape im Gegensatz zum Illustrator Open Source Software ist, hatte ich zunächst meine Bedenken, die jedoch schnell zerstreut wurden. Das Programm ist übersichtlich und intuitiv zu handhaben ? wer schon ein Vektorgrafikprogramm beherrscht und etwas Erfahrung mit der Erstellung von Vektorgrafiken mitbringt kann damit rechnen, dass er sehr schnell auch mit Inkscape zurecht kommt.

Wenn man sich Inkscape installieren möchte, ist ein schneller Rechner von Vorteil und auch am Arbeitsspeicher sollte man nicht sparen. Inkscape benötigt sehr viele Ressourcen und neigt leider auch zum Abstürzen ? deswegen ist es sinnvoll ab und zu mal zu speichern.

Working with Inkscape, part 1

I used the creation of the new Tango icons to move away from Adobe Illustrator and familiarize myself with Inkscape.

In contrast to Illustrator, Inkscape is Open Source software, so I was sceptical at first. My concerns were soon resolved, however, because Inkscape is very clearly arranged and can be used intuitively. If you’ve worked with a vector graphics program before, and are at least somewhat experienced in creating vector graphics, you’ll get used to Inkscape very fast.

If you want to install Inkscape, you will need a fast computer with enough memory, as well. Inkscape uses up a lot of resources, and also tends to crash every now and then, so remember to save early and save often.
