Reformatting might be a thing of the past for FAU University Press doctoral theses
So far, FAU authors who wanted to publish their doctoral thesis with FAU University Press had to reformat them after writing to meet corporate design requirements.
With the Open Source Academic Publishing Suite (OS-APS) and SciFlow Publish, this could be a thing of the past. Authors can submit their original Word *.docx file, for example in A4 format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is extracted from this file, and the final formatting of the PDF is generated from the XML in a single-source publishing workflow according to the publisher’s specifications.
In addition to PDF, other publishing formats such as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) books can be created. This benefits readers who want to read academic books on a tablet or smartphone, as HTML books dynamically adjust to the size of the screen. This is also a great benefit in terms of digital accessibility.
This new book production workflow is currently being tested.
