FAUdoctorate Kick-off: thank you all for joining us!

The FAUdoctorate Kick-off 2024 took place on November 21 and it was a remarkable experience for both participants and organizers!

A diverse group of active and prospective doctoral candidates as well as master’s students eager to explore the path of doctoral education attended the event, bringing with them a range of important questions: Should I embark on a doctoral journey? How can a doctoral title enhance my future career? What support can I expect from FAU during my doctoral studies? And what if I decide not to pursue a career in academia? With over 150 engaged participants, the event proved to be a resounding success, thank you all for your participation and contribution!

The evening began with a warm welcome from our Vice President for People, Prof. Andreas Hirsch, who introduced the university, highlighting its key achievements and initiatives. Dr. Christian Schmitt-Engel, manager of the FAU Graduate Center, presented the various support structures available to doctoral candidates at FAU. Leonie Manzke informed participants about the activities of the Doctoral Researchers Representation and encouraged them to become actively involved. Finally, Dr. Silke Schnurbusch focused her talk on career opportunities for doctoral researchers, both within and outside the university.

During the subsequent reception, attendees had the opportunity to network and gather information from members of the Graduate Center, as well as representatives from the FAU Office of Equality and Diversity – Ariadne Mentoring Program, the Alumni Network and FAU Community, the Offices of Research from the faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, Theology and Sciences, from the Welcome Center, the Career Service, and FAU Start-up Service. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our colleagues for their invaluable contributions to our event!

The Doctorate Kick-Off takes place every year at the beginning of the winter term. Stay tuned for our next Kick-Off in fall 2025!
